Mark Motycka, a Champaign-Urbana native, has performed on three continents as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1990, after five years with the Knetch String Quartet, he founded the Telos String Quartet in Omaha, Nebraska, which performed extensively in the United States and abroad, including two tours of Italy. In addition, he has toured Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg as a member of the American Sinfonietta. As an orchestral player, Mr. Motycka was a cellist of long standing with the Oklahoma Symphony before assuming his present positions as Principal Cello of the Lincoln (Nebraska) Symphony and as a member of the Omaha Symphony.

Mark released his first solo CD "American Tango" on Cala Records in 1997 featuring works for Cello, Percussion and Piano. He subsequently appeared on Cala Records' "Latin Cello" recording with 23 of London's top cellists. In February of 1998 Motycka again joined The London Cello Sound for its debut performance in front of HRM the Queen of England.

Active as an educator, Motycka has been Visiting Professor of Cello Studies at the University of Nebraska and is highly regarded as a cello teacher and coach in the Lincoln and Omaha areas.

Mr. Motycka is a graduate of Purchase College, New York and has studied with and performed in masterclasses held by such leading teachers as Nathaniel Rosen, Stephen Gaber (Principal Cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra), Aldo Parisot (Yale University) and Janos Starker.
