Mark Motycka has established a reputation as a versatile musician, both in performance and pedagogically. He served as Principal Cello for the Lincoln Symphony for 10 years as well as performing with the Omaha Symphony as a section member and Assistant Principal Cello. Mark has concertized with the Telos String Quartet locally as well as twice in Italy, and as a founding member of the American Sinfonietta twice toured Germany, Austria and Luxembourg. He began playing the cello in Kent, Ohio. His private teachers include Janet Chapple, Jennifer Langham(CMU), Stephen Kates(Peabody), Stephen Geber(CIM) and Aldo Parisot(Brazil). He has performed in masterclasses for Nathaniel Rosen, Claus Adam and Janos Starker; chamber music coachings with John Graham and Broadus Earle.

As an avid teacher, Mark maintains a private cello studio having taught all levels; starting with the underserved schools in the Omaha area as a String Specialist as well as a Visiting Professor of Cello Studies, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Mark released his first solo CD “American Tango” on Cala Records in 1997 featuring works for Cello, Percussion, and Piano. He subsequently appeared on Cala Records’ “Latin Cello” recording with 23 of London’s top cellists. In February of 1998 Mr. Motycka again joined The London Cello Sound for its debut performance in front of HRM the Queen of England. His solo work can also be heard on the CD "Bel Canto Magnificat", the Klosner's album "Stardust" and more recently “Taller Children” by Elizabeth and the Catapult and Maria Taylor’s newest CD “Ladyluck”. Mark can also be heard playing the cello solos in the closing moments of the film "Lovely Still" starring Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn, due to be released November 2009.
