More Biographies

Molly Moriarty is a Violinist with the Omaha Symphony, and has been a member since 1974. She also plays Viola in the Midlands String Quartet, and has been with the quartet since 1988. She teaches in the Omaha Public School district, and is currently Orchestra Director at Central High School. Since coming to Central in 1994 her orchestra has consistently received Excellent and Superior ratings at District Music Contest. Before coming to Central she taught Middle School Orchestra and Band, and Elementary Strings. Molly also teaches private students, and plays in church and community groups in the area. She holds membership in the Omaha Musician's Union, where she has recently been appointed to their Executive Board; Nebraska Music Educators, American String Teachers Association, and Omicron Delta Kappa (a leadership honorary).

Molly has a Bachelors degree in Music Education and Violin, and a Masters degree in Music and Violin. She also has Suzuki Training in Violin Books 1 and 2, and Cello Book 1. She has attended the Aspen Music Festival, and has played in the Lincoln NE symphony, and the Sioux City Symphony. She has been on the faculty of UNO’s School for Strings, and is a string coach, and occasional guest conductor for the Omaha Area Youth Orchestra’s various orchestra and string ensembles. She has been the All-City Middle School Orchestra conductor twice in the past ten years, and is the conductor for the 2008 All-City Middle School Orchestra. In 1997 she received the Nebraska American String Teachers Association award for Outstanding Public School String Teacher.

Molly has basically “lived” the Violin, and the Omaha Symphony, since her late mother, Virginia Moriarty was a 52-year member in the orchestra. Molly was fortunate to be her moms stand partner for the last 7 or so years her mother played in the Symphony.

Molly was one of the judges for the Septermberfest parade this September (2007). She was representing the Omaha Musician's Union.
