posted 2000-2001 Omaha Symphony Spotlight Author~ Dick Piersol ~ Dick Piersol and his wife Rhonda Winchell have been season ticket holders for the Masterworks series for just a few years, but they are enthusiastic advocates for the Omaha Symphony. Dick, managing editor of the Financial Services division of Data Transmission Network, is a longtime writer and journalist. His own musical tastes are extremely eclectic: he can recite lyrics to popular songs of the 60s, name members of jazz combos from the 40s, and can be seen at occasional rock concerts as well as at the Orpheum. Dick believes the Omaha Symphony "is the best show in town." After attending our concerts for a couple of years, Dick said he became interested in the musicians as individuals. "I've been coming long enough that I recognize individuals in the orchestra and I'm curious about them," Dick explained. He suggested that the symphony program book should contain biographical sketches of section musicians as well as those of the soloists and conductors. It was a logical conclusion: who better to write [about] musicians for the Omaha symphony audience than a member of the audience who is a writer? Dick agreed to take on the job, and he has begun the process of talking to musicians. That's how this new feature came to be added to the program!* * - this feature is no longer running in the program books.
